Publications

Reference and instruction librarian and associate professor Jack O'Gorman was the general editor of Reference Sources for Small and Medium Sized Libraries, released this year in its seventh edition. Roesch Library associate professor Emily Hicks and reference specialist Tom Weitzel contributed chapters. "This new edition of a classic reference title is intended for small and medium-sized libraries as they make the difficult choices for what to include in their library's reference collection," O'Gorman said. The edition incorporates the recommendations of librarians with subject expertise and experience in university, community college and public libraries. For more information about the book, see its description on the American Library Association Web site.

Appointment

University Libraries Dean Emeritus and Professor Ed Garten, who retired from UD a year ago, has been appointed program director for the Doctor of Education program in higher education and adult learning with the Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden University in Minneapolis. His appointment was effective Aug. 1.

Community engagement

Adjunct philosophy professor Marianne Stanley has been hired as the Forum Left political columnist for the Dayton City Paper's Debate Forum section. "There obviously is also a Forum Right columnist to balance the views, plus a central stance done by the reporters at the paper," said Stanley, who teaches business ethics, environmental ethics and introduction to philosophy.

Exhibition

Visual arts professors Joel Whitaker and Jeff Jones exhibited in July at the Link Gallery on Fifth Street in downtown Dayton. The show included Whitaker's photography and Jones' paintings. The Dayton City Paper's July 23-29 issue featured a review of the exhibit.
