Strength, Courage, Wisdom

WHIO-TV anchor Letitia Perry will give the keynote address at the University of Dayton's annual women's leadership conference March 7.

Letitia Perry, WHIO-TV news anchor and reporter, will deliver the keynote address at the University of Dayton's eighth annual Annie T. Thornton Women' s Leadership Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 7, in the University of Dayton's Kennedy Union.

The theme of the conference is "Strength, Courage, Wisdom." Perry's speech, scheduled for 11:50 a.m., will focus on how women can overcome personal and professional challenges.

Perry is a Dayton native and a graduate of Central Michigan University. She worked for several public radio stations after graduation and returned to Dayton in 1996 where she served as news director and later director of community affairs for Hawes-Saunders Broadcast Properties, Inc. She joined WHIO as a reporter in 2000 and was named co-anchor of Newscenter 7 at 11 p.m. in 2006.

Perry has served on many boards and committees, including the United Negro College Fund/Wilberforce University Joint Campaign; the AIDS Foundation Miami Valley, the Children's Medical Center's Special Needs Blood Drive advisory board and the Public Radio News Directors Association.

The Annie T. Thornton Women's Leadership Conference is an annual one-day event that brings together an intergenerational group of women to collaborate, network and discuss the personal and professional challenges facing women today. The conference seeks to empower women by providing them with resources and skills that will prepare them to be leaders in the 21st century.

The conference also includes programming targeted to undergraduate students interested in developing their leadership skills. Workshop sessions will discuss finances, relationships, networking and careers.

Participants are encouraged to register by Feb. 27, but registrations will be accepted the day of the event.

The conference was named for Thornton to recognize her 44 years of leadership and dedication at the University of Dayton. While serving in various positions in dining services, housing and as the associate director of Kennedy Union, Thornton mentored hundreds of students, changing lives and empowering young women.
