Fiske Guide: 'Optimism, Charity'

In the newest Fiske Guide to Colleges, UD is described favorably for its academics, social life and overall quality.

The University of Dayton has been included in the 2010 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges.

The annual guide, which has been published for more than 20 years, provides information to students bound for colleges in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The guide uses anecdotal information rather than statistical approaches to summarize the strengths and weaknesses of featured institutions in terms of academics, social life and overall quality of life.

The University of Dayton entry begins thusly: "Anyone who thinks college students of today subscribe to postmodern cynicism ought to take a peek at Dayton, where optimism and Christian charity are alive and well."

Author Edward B. Fiske served for 17 years as education editor of The New York Times.
