Non-Conference Men's Hoops Schedule

Head coach Brian Gregory and his Flyers will face opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Colonial Athletic Association, Mid-American Conference, Missouri Valley Conference, Mountain West Conference and Southeastern Conference.

With a record-setting 27-win season and a trip to the NCAA tournament still fresh in the minds of the Flyer Faithful, the University of Dayton men's basketball team announced its 2009-10 non-conference schedule Wednesday, July 22.

The list of opponents includes teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Colonial Athletic Association, Mid-American Conference, Missouri Valley Conference, Mountain West Conference and Southeastern Conference.

A highlight of the non-conference schedule is the University of Dayton's participation in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-Off Nov. 19-22 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Pairings have not yet been finalized, but the field consists of Boston University, George Mason, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kansas State, Ole Miss and 2009 Final Four participant Villanova. Each team will play three games in the event, and every game from Puerto Rico will be televised within the ESPN family of networks.

Eight of UD's other 11 non-conference games will be at home, including the season-opener Saturday, Nov. 14, against Creighton.

After the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, Dayton will return home to meet Towson on Saturday, Nov. 28.

"Our non-conference strength of schedule has been ranked in the nation's top 50 in four of the last five years, and I believe this year's non-conference schedule will be no different," University of Dayton head men's basketball coach Brian Gregory said. "We've worked very hard in putting together a combination of home, away and neutral-site games that will help us accomplish the two main goals in our non-conference scheduling model - prepare us for the tough Atlantic 10 schedule and position us for an at-large bid into the post season."

The Flyers' first true road game will be Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Miami University.  After returning to the University of Dayton Arena for a game with Lehigh on Saturday, Dec. 5, The Flyers are back on the road, traveling to George Mason.

Dayton then is home for four straight games against teams that return at least four starters from a year ago. The first of those is Friday, Dec. 11, against Old Dominion, last year's collegeinsider.com invitational championship team. That game is followed by games with Presbyterian on Saturday, Dec. 19, Appalachian State on Monday, Dec. 21, and Boston University on Tuesday, Dec. 29.

The Flyers will ring in the New Year Friday, Jan. 1, at New Mexico. They will close out the non-conference portion of the schedule at home Tuesday, Jan. 5, against Ball State.

The 16-game Atlantic 10 Conference schedule follows in January, February and March. The Flyers will play home-and-home Atlantic 10 games with Duquesne, Saint Louis and Xavier. In addition, Dayton will play host to Charlotte, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The games with Fordham, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's and Temple are on the road.

The Flyers also announced Wednesday, July 22, that their two preseason games will be played at home against Ferris State on Tuesday, Nov. 3 and Georgetown College on Monday, Nov. 9.

UD's complete schedule, including the Atlantic 10 Conference schedule and game times, will be announced at a later date.
