Remembering 9/11

The University of Dayton community will remember the events of Sept. 11, 2001, with a vigil, discussion and by tolling the Immaculate Conception Chapel bells at the times of the four plane crashes.

The University of Dayton will remember the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks with the following events. All events are on Sept. 11, 2009.

  • 8:46 a.m.: Tolling of the Immaculate Conception Chapel bells for one minute to coincide with American Airlines Flight 11 hitting 1 World Trade Center.
  • 9:03 a.m.: Tolling of the Immaculate Conception Chapel bells for one minute to coincide with United Airlines Flight 175 hitting 2 World Trade Center.
  • 9:37 a.m.: Tolling of the Immaculate Conception Chapel bells for one minute to coincide with American Airlines Flight 77 hitting the Pentagon.
  • 10:03 a.m.: Tolling of the Immaculate Conception Chapel bells for one minute to coincide with United Airlines Flight 93 crashing in Pennsylvania.
  • 9:30-10:20 a.m.: University of Dayton School of Law Faculty Lounge, 4th Floor: The University of Dayton School of Law Student Bar Association is hosting a memorial and discussion. Law professor Dennis Greene will moderate the discussion during which students will reflect on that day and talk about how far the U.S. has come as a nation. Sister Mary Louise Foley, campus minister for the School of Law, will lead a prayer to remember the victims and heroes of Sept. 11, 2001.
  • 12:05 p.m.: The University of Dayton’s regularly scheduled noon Mass. Every year, the campus community remembers those lost in the tragedies in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., during a special Mass for Peace. 
  • 4 p.m.: The University of Dayton's Student Government Association will hold a vigil at Humanities Plaza on campus. The students will reflect and pray as a community about the events of Sept. 11, 2001. For more information contact, Rebecca Marek at 937-229-4444 or rsmarek@gmail.com.
