Researcher Named VP of National Organization

Dilip Ballal, director of the von Ohain Fuels and Combustion Center, will serve as a senior vice president within the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He will be an instrumental part of the organization's Grand Energy Challenge.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers has appointed Dilip Ballal, the Hans von Ohain Distinguished Professor and Director of the von Ohain Fuels and Combustion Center at the University of Dayton, a senior vice president.

Ballal's area of responsibility is the society's institutes sector. He will work to grow the sector's areas of energy and power per the recommendations of the society's Grand Energy Challenge global initiative. The initiative is one of the first steps ASME is taking to identify, organize and build upon existing energy capabilities, products and services to better serve those who rely on energy information and expertise.

Ballal is an internationally renowned and respected leader in the field of jet propulsion engineering with 40 years of expertise in aero engine combustion, fuels, gas turbine propulsion systems, and laser diagnostics. He also serves as head of the Energy and Environmental Engineering Division at the University of Dayton Research Institute, managing operations and personnel performing multi-million dollar research programs in fuels science and engineering, combustion, modeling and simulation, environmental engineering and energy conservation.
