Congressional Approval

The U.S. House of Representatives congratulates the Flyers men's basketball team for its 2010 National Invitation Tournament championship.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed Resolution 1456 Monday, July 26, congratulating the Dayton Flyers men's basketball team for winning the 2010 National Invitation Tournament championship.

But the resolution U.S. Rep. Mike Turner of Dayton read on the floor of Congress focused on more than the championship.

Turner, who called himself a "proud alumnus," talked about the University's ranking on the Saviors of our Cities list for community revitalization efforts, how the University graduates 96 percent of its student-athletes and the University's status as one of the top-10 Catholic universities in the nation. He called the University a "center of research excellence."

The Flyers defeated four Bowl Championship Series schools during their NIT title run this year. They defeated North Carolina 79-68 in New York City's Madison Square Garden for the school's third NIT title.
