In Defense of a Title

The men's basketball team earned a berth to the National Invitation Tournament and will defend its 2010 NIT title.

The University of Dayton men's basketball team has earned a bid to the 2011 National Invitation Tournament.

The Flyers (22-13), a No. 3 seed, will begin the defense of their 2010 NIT championship at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, on ESPN2 against sixth-seeded College of Charleston (24-10) in Carolina First Arena.

Join University of Dayton alumni for a pregame social scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Kickin' Chicken, 337 King Street, which is walking distance from Carolina First Arena. Dayton won the 2010 NIT by beating defending 2009 NCAA Division I national champion North Carolina. The Flyers knocked off Illinois State, Cincinnati, Illinois and Ole Miss along the way.

The Flyers, Atlantic 10 Conference tournament runner-up, will be making their 23rd appearance in the NIT. In addition to its 2010 crown, Dayton won the NIT in 1962 and 1968.
