A Return to the Dance

The women's basketball team earned a bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship for the second straight year.

The University of Dayton women's basketball team is headed to the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship for the second straight year.

The Atlantic 10 Conference tournament runner-up and 11th-seeded Flyers (21-11) begin their tournament run at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, in University Park, Pa., against sixth-seeded Penn State (24-9). ESPN2 will broadcast the game.

The game is a rematch of the Flyers’ season opener Nov. 12 at University of Dayton Arena when the Lady Lions prevailed 112-107 in double overtime.The teams played one other time. Dayton won that meeting 67-66 Dec. 6, 2008, at University Park, Pa.

Dayton made its first-ever trip to the NCAA tournament last year, advancing to the second round with a thrilling come-from-behind win over TCU.

This is the fourth straight postseason appearance for the Flyers. They went to the Women's National Invitation Tournament in 2008 and 2009.
