Economic Honors

A prestigious European university has honored a University of Dayton accounting professor for her international work in accounting education.

The Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, Romania, on June 8 awarded an honorary doctorate to Donna L. Street, Mahrt Chair in Accounting — the first woman and the youngest person to receive the honor.

In conferring the honor, the academy noted "her extraordinary involvement and leadership in the worldwide development of accounting in higher education, including both professional and academic applications, with a focus on young scholars in emerging economies in particular."

The award was given during the Accounting and Management Information Systems international conference in Bucharest.

Street is an internationally recognized authority on international accounting standards and immediate past president and director of research and educational activities of the International Association for Accounting Education and Research.

She recently authored a study for the Council of Institutional Investors assessing the readiness of the International Accounting Standards Board to take on leadership in the move to globally accepted accounting standards.
