Richard Boykin '94 won the Democratic nomination for the Cook County Board’s 1st District seat, beating four other candidates to replace retiring Commissioner Earlean Collins.

James Casey '88 was recently elected to the post of President-elect of the Nonresident Lawyers Division for the State Bar of Wisconsin. Casey's one year term starts July 1, 2014, and will be followed by a year as President and a year as Past President. He is presently the Pre-Award Manager in the Office of Sponsored Programs at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh.

The Ohio Association for Justice (OAJ) is a statewide organization of plaintiff attorneys whose mission is to preserve our Constitutional rights and protect access to the civil justice system for all Ohioans through advocacy in the Courthouse, Statehouse, and Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. Member attorneys practice in such specialty areas as workers’ compensation, personal injury, medical negligence, products liability, consumer law, insurance law, employment and civil rights law, environmental law and general negligence. At their annual convention, the OAJ presented two alumni with awards.

  • Robert DeRose '91 received a President's Award for 2014. The President's Award is presented to an attorney for his or her resolute friendship, passion, intelligence and devotion to OAJ.
  • Mark Kitrick '81 received a Distinguished Service Award. The award is given to an attorney for his or her exemplary service to the OAJ, dedication to the rule of law, and for protecting the 7th amendment right of Ohio's citizens.

Donald C. Ligorio '92 of the law firm of Hourigan Kluger & Quinn, was inducted into the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, one of the most prestigious trial lawyer groups in the country. Less than 1 percent of all attorneys nationwide have been inducted, which is limited to attorneys who have won million-dollar jury verdicts and settlements.

Kermit F. Lowery '84 received the John and Ginny Elam Pro Bono Award. The Dayton Bar Association congratulated Lowery, DBA 2nd Vice President, for winning the award which was presented at the Ohio State Bar Association annual meeting by Chief Justice O’Connor.

Alex J. Sabo '78, a partner in Bressler, Amery & Ross, P.C., Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, recently spoke about legal issues facing small and regional securities brokerage firms at the 2014 SIFMA Compliance & Legal Society Conference in Orlando.

Jeff Senney '86 was the featured attorney on the Pickrel, Schaeffer and Ebeling newsletter, On the Legal Wire. Senney is a shareholder with the firm providing a full range of services for new or current business owners, including helping business owners resolve issues with the IRS, the Department of Labor, the Securities Exchange Commission, state security regulators, and other state agencies.

Sasha Alexa M. VanDeGrift '06 has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer Rising Star for 2014 in the area of Civil Litigation Defense.

Brian M. Wiggins '12 and Jonathan A. Hall '12 announce the opening of Wiggins & Hall Law Group, LLC, an estate and business planning law firm serving clients from Dayton, Ohio, to Lexington, Kentucky. Wiggins and Hall established their firm with the goal of providing efficient and comprehensive representation for their clients’ estate planning issues. The firm will deal with a wide range of matters related to the topic of estate planning, including wills, trusts, probate, probate litigation, elder law, business succession planning, and veteran benefits.
