A New Leader

The University of Dayton announced today that long-time University employee Thomas U. Weckesser has been named executive director in the president's office.

As executive director Weckesser will focus on coordinating projects and activities on a broad range of projects and priorities with senior leadership teams, administrative staff, departments and external constituencies

In making the announcement, President Eric F. Spina said Weckesser's management experience along with his commitment to the University's Catholic, Marianist values make him well-suited for the new position.

"Along with his skills in managing complex projects, collaboration and teamwork are central to Tom's approach to work, along with a deeply felt understanding of the Marianist charism and how it shapes the work, culture and mission of the University," Spina said.

"His skills and experience in consensus-building and commitment to the common good will be most valuable in continuing our strong momentum and beginning work as a community to envision the University's future," Spina said.

Weckesser, who joined the University in 2006, currently serves as director of application support and integration in the division of information technology, leading the team responsible for the University's central IT systems and web presence.

"I'm grateful and humbled to have this opportunity to serve the University during this exciting time in its history," Weckesser said. "I truly love the University of Dayton and welcome the opportunity to contribute to advancing its mission and culture."

A Dayton native, Weckesser graduated from Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School and earned a bachelor's degree in management information systems and an MBA from the University of Dayton.

Weckesser and his wife, Helen, live in Kettering with their three children, where they are active in St. Albert the Great parish.

His appointment is effective August 1.
