UD to Create Brown Street Green Space at Site of Former Funeral Home, Apartment Building

The University of Dayton will remove a former funeral home and small apartment building and create green space at the corner of Brown Street and Sawmill Road.

The University purchased the properties at 1733 Brown St. and 1717 Brown St. in 2012 to ensure any future use would be compatible with the neighborhood, which is contiguous to campus.

As there are no immediate plans for development, the University decided to create landscaped green space at the former funeral home location as an asset to the neighborhood, said Rick Krysiak, vice president for facilities management and planning for UD.

Demolition of the structures will begin the week of Jan. 15 and the sites will be graded. Krysiak said the University intends to create a spot that will complement the grounds of the historic Patterson Homestead and be an attractive gateway to campus.
