Sidaard Gunasekaran lab and spray testing

Drone spray seminar - May 24; Droplet size course - May 25

Sidaard Gunasekaran, University of Dayton assistant professor of mechanical and aeronautical engineering, and his industry partner Kyle Butz, a technical adviser with Spray Analytics, invite chemical and hardware manufacturers and government officials to an event May 24-25 at the University of Dayton's Kettering Laboratories 203 to "get people in the room who think similarly or about the same problems to wrap our heads around how does this look, how is it different from or could be better than these other spraying techniques, how we can optimize it, and to make some recommendations."

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 24

  • Discussion of current situation on drone spraying
  • Recent lab studies with drone sprays for deposition and drift
  • Understanding the aerodynamics of drone operation and the impact a drone has on spray efficacy
  • Looking ahead at the impact of drones and additional emerging technologies in terms of precision spraying
  • University of Dayton facility tour that includes drone test stand used for studies and wind tunnel test capabilities
  • Breakfast and lunch included.

Speakers to include industry experts.

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 25 ($995 per person, limit of 12)

  • Instrumentation and techniques used in droplet size testing in current drift testing
  • Laser diffraction basics – what is measured, how it is measured
  • Best practices for laser diffraction – parameters, test setup, execution, troubleshooting, data
  • Data handling, processing and outputting efficiently
  • Hands on testing in tunnel and/or drone test stand
  • Breakfast and lunch included.
