Dayton Divests

On June 23, the University of Dayton announced it will begin divesting coal and fossil fuels from its $670 million investment pool. It is believed to be the first Catholic university in the nation to take this step.

The board of trustees unanimously approved the new investment policy, which reflects the University's commitment to environmental sustainability, human rights and its religious mission.

In the weeks since, many local, regional, national and international outlets have reported on the the University taking this step.

More than 1,200 websites picked up an Associated Press story story according to a Google Search. Outlets in Oklahoma, Washington, D.C, Washington, California, Indiana, North Carolina, Utah, Texas, West Virginia, Connecticut and New York picked up the story. The websites of the TV stations in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Youngstown and Toledo are among the at least 20 outlets statewide that picked up the story.

At least 148 outlets in Minnesota, Colorado, Delaware, Missouri, Arkansas, Utah, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New York, Massachusetts and Michigan ran this story that originated in the Salt Lake City Deseret News.
