Events

UD EMS holds many events throughout the year. Our main events include National Collegiate EMS Week celebrations, the annual Lesley E. Smith 5k, and National Epilepsy Awareness Month fundraisers. These events are open to the public and provide students with the opportunity to meet current members, get involved with their community, and learn more about UD EMS.

Lesley E. Smith Annual 5k

Lesley Smith was a devoted member of University of Dayton EMS for 3 years. She graduated from UD in May 2007 with dual degrees in Psychology and Spanish. Lesley served as the Personnel Officer for a year, and graciously stepped up to the plate her last semester when the current Personnel Officer resigned. She also worked hard through the promotion process to become a Crew Chief. Lesley was a great leader and gave countless hours of her time to UD EMS. In addition to her selfless acts, Lesley was a great mentor for fellow UD EMS members. She was a very passionate, and charismatic person who always had a smile on her face.

Lesley passed away on January 30, 2008 due to complications from epilepsy. She was pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Cincinnati.  Donations from each annual race are given to The Epilepsy Foundation, which is dedicated to the welfare of the almost 3 million people with epilepsy in the U.S.

The 15th Annual 5k is going to be held in the fall. Thank you for your support!

Collegiate EMS Week

Collegiate EMS Week is the second full week in November and is modeled after National EMS Week that occurs in May. It is a week-long recognition and celebration of campus based EMS and provides an annual opportunity for collegiate EMS organizations to educate their communities.

UD EMS holds a number of events on and around the University of Dayton campus annually for Collegiate EMS Week. Most events are open to the public, and are designed to increase community awareness and fortify relationships with local EMS agencies.

This years National Collegiate EMS Week began on Sunday, November 10th and concluded on Saturday, November 16th. UD EMS celebrated with CPR and First Aid Classes, an open house, table hours, and a takeover among other events. Thank you for your support!
