A Partnership in your Development

GRADUATE ASSISTANT DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

The Graduate Assistant Development Committee has worked diligently to prepare a curriculum that will connect graduate students with their colleagues and equip them with the resources and tools to be successful in your assistantship. Throughout the graduate student experience, graduate assistants will encounter situations that will challenge them personally and professionally. It is the hope of the Graduate Assistant Development Committee that students will embrace all of the experiences that they encounter and use them as opportunities to grow and develop.

VOCATION STATEMENT

The University of Dayton defines vocation as answering a call to discover one’s unique gifts and employ them in service for the common good in ways that are personally satisfying and bring meaning to one’s life (The Language of Vocation at the University of Dayton, 2017).

The Graduate Assistant Development Committee designs a curriculum that connects graduate students with their colleagues and equips them with the resources and tools to be successful in their assistantship and after graduation. The learning outcomes for the curriculum align with the University of Dayton’s student learning outcome for vocation and promote vocational discernment.

Graduate Assistants who participate in initiatives offered by the GADC will:

  • Participate in experiential learning that connects to their life and career goals
  • Articulate their gifts, values, passions, and growth opportunities
  • Build a social and professional network
  • Engage in a process for discerning vocation and their life purpose
  • Critically examine elements of a life of meaning and its connection to their career path
  • Identify strategies for engaging and including their supervisor and journey partners in their vocational discernment
