On Your PATH to 30

Research by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) supports that adults require at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise daily to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We all have various reasons for choosing to focus on or ignore our daily exercise goals, and figuring out how to navigate those barriers and focus on the benefits can be difficult. Through a survey conducted at the beginning of the 2015-16 school year, Campus Recreation identified what University of Dayton students found to be most beneficial and challenging about regularly exercising. Those results will serve as an additional focus over the course of this program. Aligning research and Campus Recreation resources with the adage of 30 days to create a habit, On Your PATH to 30 is geared towards helping you start adding 30 minutes of exercise to your regular routine.

On Your PATH to 30 is an active, 35-day program that will take place over 4 themed weeks. Those who achieve the weekly goal of checking in to the RecPlex and participating in a recreational activity for at least 30 minutes will earn 1 PATH point per given week, with 4 points total available at the end of the program. Those who achieve all 4 PATH points or check-in for a total of 20 days will receive a “Get Your 30” t-shirt to commemorate their achievements and serve as a reminder of the important healthy lifestyle habits they worked to establish.

Themes and Registration Deadlines

Participants may register for ‘On Your PATH to 30’week by week or for all 4 weeks at once. Upon registering, communication will be sent from campusrec@udayton.edu outlining PATH event details, as well as various reminders and updates throughout the week.

Week 1: EveryBODY got time for that! | February 1-7

Registration Deadline: Thursday, January 28th at 11:59pm

One of the top reasons people don’t regularly add exercise into their routines is because they don’t believe they have enough time to incorporate it into their busy schedules. This week will focus on how critical exercise can be to reducing stress levels, and how focusing on just 30 minutes of exercise a day is enough to make a significant difference in participants’ health.

Week 2: Our doors are always open (Kinda) | February 8-14

Registration Deadline: Thursday, February 4th at 11:59pm

This week participants will explore the many benefits of exercise and how 30 minutes of daily activity can enhance their quality of life. Participants will also learn various ways to get their 30 minutes of exercise when the RecPlex is busy and bumpin.

Week 3: Just Do it! | February 15-21

Registration Deadline: Thursday, February 11th at 11:59pm

Some days getting off the couch or out of the library can be a barrier to getting 30 minutes of exercise that day. This week will help motivate participants and give them more reasons than they’ve ever imagined to get their 30 --including the benefit of improved self-confidence!

Week 4: You've GOt A Friend in UDCR | February 22-March 6

Registration Deadline: Thursday, February 18th at 11:59pm

Part of University of Dayton Campus Recreation’s mission is to motivate, inspire and empower the UD community to lead healthy, active and balanced lives. Similarly, it is important to have people in our lives to challenge and support us to do the same. In this final week of the ‘On Your PATH to 30’ program, participants will reflect on who in their life could help make them a healthier person, as well as how they can pay it forward to others who may need that added encouragement.
