Lifeguard Review Course

Has your lifeguard certification recently expired or will expire in the near future? Then this is the course for you. This course is intended for individuals that need to renew their American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. All skills and written test material (including: Lifeguarding, CPR, AED and First Aid) will be tested in a shorter, challenge format. The purpose of a review course is to give individuals the opportunity to review the course content within a formal setting. The review course format optimizes a participant’s ability to prepare for the final written exam as well as the final skills tests. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AEDfor Professional Rescuers certificates valid for two years.

To be eligible for the Lifeguard Training Review course, participants must have valid Lifeguard and CPR/AED certifications. Participants must provide copies of certifications at the time of course registration. Individuals that do not have eligible certificates may not participate in the LG Review course; they can only participate in a full course.

Must bring a copy of the 2012 edition of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Manual to the review course as well.

Participants must be at least 15 years of age prior to the final day of the course.  Parent signature is required for participants under the age of 18 years old.

Participants will be required to pass the American Red Cross lifeguarding prerequisites prior to continuing in the course.  They should take time prior to the start of the course to practice and prepare. Participants are required to swim 300 yards alternating front crawl and breaststroke.  There is no time limit for this portion, however they cannot stop at any point. Participants are also required to complete a brick retrieval skill. Starting in the water,  they will swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within one minute, 40 seconds. The third component of the preskills is the ability to tread water for 2 minutes with hands tucked in the underarms.

Participants that do not pass the prerequisites will not be permitted to enroll in the lifeguarding course
