Expectations of New Members

General Information Regarding the New Member Period

New member activities should occur between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and no alcohol is permitted at any new member function.

Dates for New Member Activities

The University of Dayton requires its fraternities and sororities to adhere to a new member process / period that is no longer than 8 weeks. The dates by which the fraternities and sororities must initiate their new members, as well as all Greek 101 activities can be found on our Greek Events page.

Greek 101

Greek 101 is a series of educational sessions that are held during the new member period. In conjunction with the Office of Greek Life, they are coordinated by the Interfraternity, National Pan-Hellenic, and Panhellenic Council new member educators and are required of all new fraternity and sorority members. Topics for Greek 101 are pertinent to any University of Dayton student and include sessions on governing councils, hazing, alcohol/drug awareness, sexual assault, male/female relationships, study skills, motivation, eating disorders/body image, and homophobia. All Greek 101 workshops are coordinated and facilitated by students.

The University and all values-based fraternities and sororities on campus, strongly support all city, state and national laws concerning hazing. For more information, see our Statement on Hazing.

Individuals involved in hazing incidents are subject to disciplinary action. All incidents of inappropriate behavior within the fraternity/sorority community should be reported immediately to the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life. All information received is confidential.
