Weeks of Welcome (Week 2)

Monday, January 21

MLK Day March and Rally
8:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., meet at Adele Center, McGinnis Room

Students will meet in Adele Center for breakfast and work on posters to use during the march. Transportation will be provided from UD to downtown Dayton to allow students to participate in the march. Participants will than attend the closing ceremony for the MLK March.

Intro to Climbing and Belaying
6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., RecPlex Rock Wall

New to climbing or interested in perfecting your skills? This workshop is geared toward beginning rock climbers or those looking to get some extra practice! No prior experience is necessary.

Several times throughout the semester, come together with the members of your community to build relationship, participate in discussion or learning around topics of relevance to your experiences and receive important updates from the Department of Housing and Residence Life. During this time, you will engage with others to contribute to efforts that promote a stronger community and benefit your residential experience. Some important notes about CBMs: - ALL FIRST YEAR STUDENTS will have their August CBM on the first night of classes. - This EO is open to all residential students. - If you are unable to attend your RA or Fellow's CBM, you may also participate in another CBM in your area/building. - Junior or senior students living in landlord housing or who commute may also participate by attending any CBM within the Student Neighborhood. For specific information regarding your community's Community Building Meeting (CBM) this month, please speak with your RA/Fellow or visit your area's calendar on 1850.udayton.edu.

Daring to Dream

1 in 6 men in the US are survivors of childhood sexual assault.  "Boys and Men Healing" documents the impact that sexual abuse has on individuals and society.  Four men will tell their stories of survival and recovery and reveal how speaking out helped them heal and reclaim their lives.  Following this documentary, a panel of survivors and psychologists will share their stories and answer any questions.  This event is PATH eligible.

Mental Health First Aid Training (Part 1)
3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Adele Center, 120

This 8-hour training is a national public education program that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses and substance use, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common supports. This course uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis and connect persons to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. The program also teaches the common risk factors and warning signs of specific types of illnesses, like anxiety, depression, substance use disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Lunch will be provided to participants. Part 2 will be offered the following Friday, February 1st. See go.udayton.edu/mentalhealth for the additional dates/times
