Call Trace Policy and Procedure
Call Trace Policy and Procedure
It is the policy of the University of Dayton, that all harassing and/or threatening telephone calls made to members of the University Community, are harassing and/or threatening calls against the University, as the Subscriber of Record for the telephone service. With that concept as a basis for this policy the University will be the complainant.
Procedural Steps
- A member of the University Community contacts Public Safety with a complaint about receiving harassing and/or threatening calls through the University provided telephone service.
- Public Safety takes a formal complaint, and forwards a request to UDit Telecommunications, Infrastructure & AV Systems Planning to have trace/trap capabilities activated on the telephone service receiving the harassing and/or threatening calls.
- UDit Telecommunications, Infrastructure & AV Systems Planning then activates the trace/trap capabilities on the required telephone service and instructs the complainant on the procedure to activate the trace/trap capabilities.
- UDit Telecommunications, Infrastructure & AV Systems Planning will monitor the trace/trap facilities for activation by the member of the university community. If it is determined by the information collected that the harassing and/or threatening calls are coming from within the university telephone system, UDit Telecommunications, Infrastructure & AV Systems Planning will forward to Public Safety information as to the source of the harassing and/or threatening calls. At that point, the University's Disciplinary Procedures come into effect.
- If the trace/trap information indicates the harassing and/or threatening calls are coming from outside the University's telephone system, the information is then given directly to UD Public Safety for further action.
