Spring 2024 career fair

98% of recent grads report getting off on right foot toward career success

University of Dayton graduates continue to find success after graduation, with a record-tying 98% reporting being employed, pursuing a graduate degree or participating in a service program within six months of graduation.

The number ties the mark set last year. UD's success rate has been at least 95% in seven of the last eight years, with the outlier being 93% the COVID-19 year of 2019-20.

Other items of note from the survey of graduates from August and December 2022 and May 2023 include:

  • The average starting salary was reported at $59,766, up from $57,808 last year.
  • Like last year, 96% reported they are finding success in their chosen fields or in a job that's a first step toward a position in their field.
  • The success rates by school are 99% for the School of Education and Health Sciences, 98% for the School of Business Administration and the School of Engineering, and 96% for the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Top employers include GE Aerospace, the U.S. military, Northrop Grumman, Cargill and EY.
  • The Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve University, University of Notre Dame and Duke University are among the top graduate schools accepting UD graduates.
  • 893 unique employers hired UD graduates; students are attending 135 grad schools.
  • Fifty-one percent of the graduates who reported being employed found employment in Ohio while others found opportunities in at least 40 states and nine countries.

"The value of the University of Dayton's Catholic, Marianist education of the whole person continues to prepare our students for the next steps of their lives," said Jason Eckert, executive director of UD Career Services. "Our survey shows employers and graduate schools far-and-wide are seeking UD students, so current and future students can see the possibilities after graduation are endless, and include achieving positions with top employers and acceptance to top grad schools."
