Profile

As Structures Group Leader, Dr. Olson currently supervises the activities of 14 professionals working on various structures-related research projects. He has been with UDRI for over 25 years, during which time he has led sponsored research projects for both government and industrial sponsors in the areas of hypersonic vehicle structures, structural health monitoring, structural design and analysis, composite aerostructures, materials behavior, and vibration control. These programs have ranged from participating on small consulting projects to managing multi-year, multi-million dollar efforts. Dr. Olson has a strong solid mechanics background and expertise utilizing finite element analysis, including experience with codes such as Abaqus, LS-DYNA, and Nastran. He has published over 100 technical papers and reports and has presented at engineering and technical conferences worldwide.
