Course Format

Blended Learning Format

With a blended learning design, participants acquire new information, build correct psychomotor skills and develop decision making and problem solving skills using a variety of interactive activities that are integrated into lessons along with video and skill demonstrations, skill sessions, traditional lectures and guided discussions. Guided discussions and activities are designed to correspond to the course objectives.

Upon completed registration, participants will will receive a link to the online portal via a confirmation email. This is roughly eight (8) hours of online modules that must be completed prior to the first day of class. It can be stopped and saved as needed, and is most successful when completed on a computer rather than a phone or tablet. Those who fail to provide verification of completion of the online modules will not be permitted to continue with the Lifeguarding course. No refund will be provided by UDCR or the American Red Cross.

Video segments are shown in both the online learning and in-person skill sessions and are designed to enliven the program by conveying key concepts and providing uniformly consistent explanations and demonstration of skills.

The in-person sessions span three (3) days of scheduled time over a weekend. Dates and times will be listed upon registration.

Lifeguard Certification vs. Lifeguard Review Certification

UDCR offers two formats of Lifeguard Certification, one for individuals looking to be certified for the first time or whose previous certification is expired by more than 30 days, as well as a recertification review course for those who ned to renew their American Red Cross lifeguarding certification no more than 30 days past expiration.

Upon successful completion of online modules, in-water and classroom portions of the lifeguarding course, participants will receive a Red Cross Lifeguarding / First Aid certificate and a CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certificate valid for two years.

DETAILS

Courses consist of roughly 8-hours of online modules to be done at home prior to class, followed by in-person classroom and skill sessions over the course of a weekend (Friday evening - Sunday evening). Participants must be 15 years of age by the conclusion of the course.

This course is intended for individuals that need to renew their American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. All skills and written test material (Lifeguarding, CPR, AED and First Aid) will be reviewed and tested.

Those wishing to take a Lifeguard Review course must either have a current lifeguard and CPR/AED certification OR previous lifeguard and CPR/AED certification that expired within the last 30 days. A copy of this certification must be provided for review at the time of registration, or the participant will be required to take a full course.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Red Cross Lifeguarding / First Aid certificate and a CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certificate valid for two years.

DETAILS

Preskills will be completed at the beginning of the course. Failure to successfully complete the preskills at this time will result in failure of the course and no refund will be provided. Participants must be 15 years of age by the conclusion of the course.
