Department of Accounting

Welcome to the Department of Accounting

Our mission is to provide an inclusive learning community that combines theory and practice. Here, you'll be encouraged to develop a curious mind and a compassionate heart, becoming an ethical and confident accounting professional who is prepared to adapt in our ever-changing world.

Accounting is more than debits and credits. Today and in the future, successful accounting professionals need to think critically and be adept at new technology, communicating with others, and working in a diverse and global environment.

From classroom assignments to co-curricular activities, you'll gain valuable real-world experience and put your knowledge into practice. Accounting paves the way for many paths, and our graduates are prepared for a variety of careers.

A Professional and Personal  Environment

As an accounting major at UD, you’ll have a unique educational experience where

  • Many employers will visit campus to meet you and other accounting majors.
  • All faculty teaching your classes have professional experience in accounting.
  • None of the faculty teaching your classes will be a teaching assistant or a PhD student.
  • You will use relevant technology in all of your courses.
  • Your faculty will know your name and even more about you.
  • You will be supported by a network of Flyer alumni and friends, while you are a student and for life.

Programs of Study

If you want to complete the 150-hour CPA licensure requirement and prepare for a successful career, combine our undergraduate degree program with our Master of Professional Accountancy program. This 4+1 program can be completed in five years — or four years with careful planning.

AACSB Accreditation

Our undergraduate accounting and MPAcc programs are accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). Less than 25% of the elite AACSB-International accredited schools of business worldwide also hold this specialized accounting accreditation. AACSB International accreditation represents the Department of Accounting's achievement to continuously meet a rigorous set of quality standards.
