Fourth Annual Professional Speaker Days - October 12 & 13, 2017

A change in format this fall calls for guest speakers to address the students during regular class times on Thursday, October 12, and Friday, October 13.

The two-day event will culminate in a plenary session featuring a keynote address by John Nersesian, CFP®, CIMA®, CIS, CPWA®, Senior Managing Director of Wealth Management Services at Nuveen in Chicago. An experienced financial advisor to corporate executives, affluent families and non-profit organizations, Mr. Nersesian was a First Vice President of Merrill Lynch Private Client Group prior to joining Nuveen Investments. While at Merrill Lynch he was also a leader of Advanced Training for Financial Consultants, providing training in comprehensive wealth management strategies and business development practices. Mr. Nersesian is a faculty member for the IMCA Certified Private Wealth Advisor Program.

UD President, Dr. Eric Spina, will introduce John Nersesian will speak at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, in Sears Recital Hall, located in the Humanities Building. In "Behavioral Finance:  Money Over Mind," Mr. Nersesian will address the concept and types of behavioral biases, identify emotional investor behavior, and provide approaches to mitigate negative effects on returns. He'll go beyond the basics, outlining situations to look out for, and providing specific planning tools and processes to counteract various behaviors.

Professional Speaker Day is a wonderful blending of theory with practice, a hallmark of our teaching philosophy in the School of Business Administration.  Whenever possible, we like to expose our students to what we here at UD refer to as “practical wisdom,” and it is always an added bonus when that exposure is provided by an alumnus, as in this case, where Jon Dries returned for a third straight year to present a workshop on Excel Spreadsheet Modeling.

Professional Speaker Day features hour-long concurrent sessions dedicated to topics suggested by faculty to enhance or supplement their course content. The speakers, of course, are practitioners whose area of expertise focuses on the topic at hand. Nearly 300 students participated in Professional Speaker Day 2016. Here was the lineup:
