What do you like most about your major?

Biology is not a narrow subject. Still, I feel like my major has given me a chance to take a wide range of interesting courses without compromising on depth. And, of course, the Department of Biology has a truly stellar faculty.

What do you love most about UD?

I've had some amazing professors at UD. I have never been in a class where I felt my professor wasn't interested in my success and where my efforts went unrecognized.

Have you ever participated in faculty-mentored research? If so, what did you learn from that experience?

I'm currently an undergraduate student researcher in Dr. Pitychoutis' Neuroscience lab. From this experience, I've had the chance to attain technical skills related to animal welfare/handling, high-performance liquid chromatography and confocal microscopy, among other skills. But more importantly, I've also gotten to learn about and experience all stages of the experimental process.

Favorite class at UD and why?

I would have to say my favorite class has been General Genetics (BIO 312). Compared to many of the classes I had taken before, it was especially detailed and interesting to me. I often find myself referring back to what I learned in this course while working as an undergraduate research assistant.

What piece of your academic journey has most prepared you to begin a career after graduation?

As someone who plans to go into a career in research, my research experience at UD has been invaluable.

What clubs/organizations are you involved in at UD?

  • Academic Affairs Committee (student representative)

Why did you choose UD?

A lot of factors went into my decision to go to UD. It was affordable, it had all the right programs and it was close to home. But it also just "clicked" for me when I visited the campus. It was a place I felt I'd be comfortable at.

Is there anything else about your UD experience you think prospective students and their families should know?

So long as you're willing to seek it out, UD has, in my experience, offered a lot of support for class with things like the Write Place, the Roesch Library, the Math Help Center and a general willingness of professors to work with students on challenging material during office hours.
