Profile

Barry is a full-time lecturer in the Department of Accounting at the University of Dayton (UD).  He teaches introductory courses in Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting which are required of all undergraduate majors in the School of Business Administration.

Barry previously taught similar courses as a full-time instructor at Wright State University starting in 2018, when he successfully transitioned into his “dream job” of teaching full-time.  He also previously taught graduate taxation courses at the University of Cincinnati, and an undergraduate tax course at Northern Kentucky University.  Barry’s article “Understanding Form 1098-T” was published in The Tax Adviser.

Barry brings over 25 years of experience in corporate, government, and higher-ed administrative roles.  Prior to entering full-time teaching, he served for 18 years as the Director of Tax Compliance for the University of Cincinnati, serving within their treasury office.  In that role, he has also consulted on tax affairs with other universities and led a team of higher-ed tax experts on a consulting project for the Canada Revenue Agency.  He served in the tax departments for Comair Airlines and data management company Anacomp.  He is also a former Revenue Agent with the Internal Revenue Service.

Barry is a CPA and manages a small tax practice in northern Kentucky.  He also serves on the board of directors of RefugeeConnect, a Cincinnati-area nonprofit organization whose mission is to connect refugees (people forced to flee their country to escape persecution or war) with resources to rebuild their lives as United States citizens.
