"One Day" like no other

The University of Dayton will recognize the impact of collective giving for students and the University with "One Day, One Dayton," its fifth-annual giving day Wednesday, April 19.

All friends of UD are invited to participate in the One Day, One Dayton 24-hour day of giving with a goal of achieving 4,500 donors. Events will take place on campus for faculty, staff and students to participate in One Day, One Dayton and the Stander Symposium, the University’s full-day celebration of student research, creativity and discovery.

Campus community members can attend a celebration at Central Mall noon-1 p.m. featuring food trucks, games, student performances and student organizations highlighting what they do at UD and raising funds for their groups.

Other highlighted events include:

  • Dean’s showcases: Students will showcase their faculty-mentored research and innovative programming beginning at 10 a.m. across all academic units at locations across campus.
  • Stander Symposium: Students will give research presentations, share their work from their front porches in the student neighborhood and participate in poster sessions — 9 to 10:15 a.m.; 10:45 a.m. to noon; 1:15 to 2:30 p.m.; and 3 to 4:15 p.m. in the Kennedy Union ballroom. Select honors students will also deliver a TED-style talk at 11 a.m. in the Kennedy Union Boll Theatre. View a full schedule here.
  • Special announcement: 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hub Powered by PNC at the Dayton Arcade. An announcement livestream link will go live at 7 p.m. and students can watch the announcement on the big screen during a “knockout” competition at 7:30 p.m. at the UD RecPlex.

Last year, donors representing 50 states gave $2.2 million to support student scholarships, research, experiential learning opportunities and more.

“Every donor and every donation — whether it's $1 or $1,000 — makes a difference," said University of Dayton President Eric F. Spina. “The gifts from all parts of our Flyer family on this day say ‘We believe in the University of Dayton.’ And they help to ensure a holistic, relationship-rich UD education – with all it has to offer – remains accessible and affordable to all talented students.”

Donors can designate their gifts to go to any program, scholarship or area, including programs like the UD Fund and the Dean’s Excellence funds.

Sophomore Molly Potter said donors support her work as a paid student teacher at the Bombeck Family Learning Center.

“Working here has introduced me to the best teachers, students and families, and it has allowed me to pursue my passion for teaching while also attending classes full-time,” said Potter, an early childhood education major.

“One Day, One Dayton is important because it is a celebration of UD and giving back to a community that has given so much to us,” she said.
