UD to host award-winning author, illustrator

The University of Dayton, in partnership with Dayton Metro Library, was chosen as the site for the 2023 Children's Literature Lecture with illustrator and writer Bryan Collier on April 12.

The lecture will occur in the Kennedy Union Ballroom on the UD campus. Refreshments will be served starting at 6 p.m. and the lecture will begin at 7 p.m. Collier will be available to sign books after the lecture. The lecture is free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved in advance on the Dayton Metro Library website.

Collier has won four Caldecott Honors, six Coretta Scott King Awards, three Coretta Scott King Honors, and one Ezra Jack Keats Award, and has been named to many Best of the Year Lists across the country.

According to his biography, his most recent title, We Shall Overcome, displays the most emblematic moments of the twentieth-century Civil Rights movement blended with depictions of the present day as the fight for justice continues.

The Association for Library Service to Children sponsors an annual lecture featuring an author, critic, librarian, historian, or teacher of children's literature; sites then apply for the opportunity to host the event. This is the third time the event has been hosted in Ohio in its 53-year history.
