Additional Assistive Technology

In an effort to address access needs, the Office of Learning Resources has a variety of equipment that can be borrowed by a student for use during an academic semester.    The information below provides a brief description of the equipment. If you have a need for an item on this list, you must contact OLR and schedule an appointment to discuss the assistive technology need, receive training on the equipment, and sign the loan agreement. 

Hearing Related Equipment

Personal FM by Williams Sound

The personal FM listening systems deliver superior audio directly to the ear, enhancing sound anywhere background noise or distance from the source makes listening difficult.  This device may be ideal for classrooms, small group listening, training, consultations, or any environment where listening can be difficult.

The Pocketalker amplifies sounds closest to the listener while reducing background noise.  This assistive listening devices make it easier to hear in everyday situations, helping you focus on the sounds and voices most important. The Pocketalker is ideal for one-on-one conversation and small group that may be required as part of your academic program.

UbiDuo by sComm

sComm continues to advance face-to-face communication technology with the UbiDuo, the world's foremost communication solution for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or hearing.  The UbiDuo may be an excellent solution to facilitate face-to-face communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing and hearing people when an interpreter is not available. This revolutionary device promote communication equality in real time just as in a normal conversation.

Learning Related Equipment

LiveScribe SmartPen (Echo)

Livescribe allows you to capture, search and share handwritten notes on the digital devices by synchronizing handwritten notes with recorded audio.  OLR has the Echo pen which can be synchronized with the Livescribe Desktop in both the PC and Mac environment.  The pen can be borrowed for one semester and will include one Livescribe notebook.  Additional notebooks are available for purchase.  Students can keep the notebook.

Physical Related Equipment

Adjustable Table

OLR recognizes the importance of physical access as part of the learning environment.  We have a variety of adjustable height tables that can be utilized in the academic environment.  Arrangements can be made for these tables to be placed in designated classrooms for use by students.

Speech Related Software

While sComm's focus for face-to-face communication is a communication solution for people who are deaf/hard of hearing, for individuals with a speech impediment, the UbiDuo can be equally effective.
