We invite you to apply for our new collaborative Master's program between the University of Leicester (UL), U.K. and the University of Dayton.

You will complete courses at UD in your major to prepare you for a six month project immersion. Three months of the immersion will be conducted at UL and the final three months at UD. Projects will be mostly design-based, but could involve building a mock-up and usually are sponsored by industrial partners.

Open to UD M.S. Students in the Following Programs

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Materials Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

Schedule

Program starts Fall 2024 at UD. Projects begin March 2025 at UL. Graduation in Fall 2025.

Fall 2024 Semester:

  • Three or four courses in your major (9-12 credit hours), preferably courses which prepare you for the project immersion.
  • Planning meetings with STEP cohort.

Spring 2025 Semester Part 1 (January - February - Compressed academic term):

  • One or two courses to prepare you for space challenges (3-6 credit hours).
  • Regular meetings with STEP cohort.

Spring 2025 Semester Part 2 (March - May):

  • Travel to UL in Leicester, U.K.
  • Teams of UL and UD students begin projects, co-supervised by UD and UL faculty members.

Summer 2025 Semester (June - Mid-August - End in time for fall UD classes):

  • UD and UL student teams continue projects on UD’s campus, co-supervised by UD and UL faculty members.
  • Teams and individuals present projects to stakeholders.
  • Project will count as six credit hours of thesis research (pass/fail grade) plus three credit hours of a special/capstone project (letter grade).
  • A variety of optional summer social events/field trips in and around Dayton will be planned for the cohort.

Fall 2025 Semester:

  • One to four courses in your major (3-12 credit hours depending on other semester course requirements).
  • Graduate in December 2025 with a master’s degree.

Note: The program can be completed on an accelerated schedule in three semesters (by the end of Summer 2024) if students take 12 credit hours in the fall and choose an additional 3 credit hours of online classes over the spring or summer, or they are part of a Bachelor’s Plus Master’s (BPM) program and have already taken 3-6 credit hours during their undergraduate studies.

Important Details

  1. After successful completion of the program, students will receive the Master’s degree in their chosen major.
  2. All participating students must be able to receive a student visa for the U.K., and international students must be able to return to the U.S. for Summer 2025. UD staff are able to help with the visa process.
  3. Students will be responsible for paying for their trip to and from the U.K., as well as room and board. If you are not paying rent from March-May in Dayton, you can budget this money for room and board in the U.K. — housing and food prices are comparable between Dayton and Leicester.
  4. UD students participating in this education abroad program will need to submit an application in Studio Abroad. There is a small application fee that covers health insurance while abroad and travel assistance before and during travel.
